After Hours Formalwear/The May Department Stores Company - Dry Cleaner Facility Assessment & Remediation

The release of perchloroethylene (PCE) at After Hours Formalwear (formerly Mitchell's Formal Wear) resulted in the contamination of soil and groundwater both beneath the site and beneath adjacent property. HSA Golden performed Contamination Assessment activities to determine the magnitude and extents of contamination and designed a multiphase extraction system to recover PCE and its breakdown products from the subsurface. Multiphase extraction resulted in the removal of over 100 pounds of contaminant mass from the subsurface. Due to the persistence of off-site contaminants, beyond the capture zone of the remedial system, HSA Golden installed injection wells to deliver Pseudomonas bacteria and growth media to the subsurface and speed the breakdown of PCE to inert end products.
